A Menace to Society: Scott Waracka’s Drift Inspired S13
Society sees car enthusiasts as misfits and trouble-makers as they constantly smear our community due to street racing, drifting on public roads and car meets that get out of hand. When you think that they would want enthusiasts to seek out safely sanctioned events on closed tracks they have instead worked to close our sanctuaries, and some have even been torn down in place of more “community beneficial” facilities slowly trying to kill our beloved car community.
No community has encountered this strain like the enthusiasts in Hawaii who haven’t had a legal raceway since 2006, and this has been a trend that has been spreading throughout the states including here in Missouri where a local drag-strip was recently shut down in favor of a park. Due to this some have left the community while others’ passion for their four-wheeled machines could never simply go off quietly into the night.
Guys like Scott Waracka may no longer have a place to get their weekend thrills, but the style that society influenced from drifting and racing still lives on in their street cars like his Nissan 240sx. He was instilled with this passion like most of us seem to get our introduction to the car scene – our fathers. It’s a passion that keeps Scott building cars even though society makes it increasingly tougher to do so.
Scott was first introduced to this 240sx a year before he purchased the car when he was hired to do the wiring for a SR20 swap that the previous owner dropped into the s13’s bay. The following year he happened to be driving by the owner’s house and noticed the same 240 sitting neglected and with no plates on the car. After putting a note on the car he surprisingly received a call which would lead to Scott owning a half-dismantled S13 that still was home to a SR20 swap that no longer ran.
This would mark the beginning of a four and a half year journey that would take a basket-case and have it reincarnated as a neck-breaking 240 worthy of the allure that comes with the S13 chassis. For some that seems like a lengthy build but for Scott it was well worth it as he could be proud of the build due nearly all of the work being done in his very own garage, not by a shop and a checkbook.
Even though the SR20 was stock when it fell into Scott’s hands, it now is a fully-built Black Top with a Garrett GT3071R turbo which has turned his S13 into a menacing beast. Along with the motor the electronics, fuel system, and drive-train have also seen major upgrades to handle the 240’s newly-found power that it puts to the pavement.
For suspension, Scott went with a set of stout Tein Super Street Coilovers for both the performance and look that he required. To bring this monster to a halt when needed, he improved the braking on his S13 by way of a full 300zx brake setup. Masking his new brake setup is a set of Weds Kranze Rapier’s that add to that JDM drift styling that Scott planned for from the very beginning.
The exterior features a full Origin Aggressive Style kit with custom fenders made by his friend Waylon which compliments the Origin kit perfectly. Along with the exterior modifications, Scott has also done a full respray on his S13 both inside and out.
Once behind the wheel, yours hands are wrapped around a NGR suede steering wheel while you are nestled in Corbeau FX1 bucket seats. Enclosing you in this drift machine is a custom built cage that has been altered a few times over the years.
Even though this appears to be a hardcore drift missile Scott has built a weekend get-away which I’m sure occasionally sees some unwarranted sideways time when the occasion presents itself. Though Scott’s S13 may not be fully utilized due to local politics they have never prevented him from creating a car that reflects his tastes and style, which is something any car enthusiast can truly respect.
